About.

So I came to this music thing a little late.

Went to college and law school (because, you know, you’re supposed to) and landed a position in a prestigious East Coast white shoe law firm in the big city. A job most lawyers would kill for. It nearly killed me instead. I hated it, but the money spent good. I bought lots of cool things I didn’t need. Other people seemed to be impressed.

I came to my senses one rainy Monday morning. Sitting at my desk in my office. It was my 35th birthday. Just stared at my computer screen for over an hour. Couldn’t force myself to turn it on. Took the slow walk to the corner office and told my boss I was done. I left the big city that weekend. Drove north then west, and kept going until I found a small town on a big lake that suited me.

I worked construction and odd jobs for several years, then picked up a guitar for the first time. Taught myself how to play and started writing songs. This eventually led to my first gig at my friend’s small local bar, which then led to more frequent gigs at larger bars and other live music venues in the area.

My gig money keeps me fed and a roof over my head, so I guess you could call me a musician now. Or a hopeful pragmatist. Anything but a lawyer.
